10 Internet Safety Tips
Year 4 to 9 students
During this epidemic you have spent a lot more time online. This post summarises some key tips to keep you safe;
Screen name - Create a nick name and don’t include your birthdate.
Personal info - Never reveal your surname, or home address, school name/address to anyone who asks, unless it is a credible website.
Passwords - Never share yours or write them down. Be careful with public computers and always log out of them when done.
Downloading - Be careful for viruses with unknown links to download software or email/message attachments.
Online ads - Ads may offer you something for free or that you have won something, only to gain your personal info or install a virus.
Online friends - You never know who you meet online. Don’t be fooled and meet him/her offline alone. Inform a parent or teacher.
Photos - Never post a photo that you are not comfortable with. If you’re pressured to do so, let a parent or teacher know.
Cyber bullying - Don’t send or onsent nasty or insulting messages. Screen shot them and if repetitive inform someone in authority.
Social networking - Only join them when you are the appropriate age and learn how to be a good digital citizen.
Research and study - Your librarian has many resources on how to be safe, savvy, and socially ethical online. Always state your sources.
